ENVIRONMENT
The village of Santa Teresina near Recife, Brazil, was formerly known as Hell’s Island because of the terrible misery, violence and a chronically overflowing sewage system. Members of the Focolare Movement became residents of the community during the process of overseeing the construction of water barriers, bridges, and homes, the opening of schools, and the provision of other services in order to restore hope to the people who lived there. |
