Following a conference organized by the Focolare Movement on “Economy and Work” (held at the Ergife Palace Hotel in Rome, Italy, in 1984), the “International Bureau of Economics and Labor<\/strong>” was established in 1986. This was an expression of the New Humanity Movement (active citizenship network) and the Youth for a United World Movement (the youth section of the Focolare Movement).<\/p>\n

In 1987 the International Bureau of Economics and Labor obtained Special Consultative Status from the UN ECOSOC<\/strong> (United Nations Economic and Social Council).<\/p>\n

In 1995, it took the name of “New Humanity”, and was based in New York<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 2005, New Humanity became the “New Humanity International Association”, and was based in Grottaferrata (Rome), Italy. It was granted General Consultative Status by the United Nations<\/strong> in the same year.<\/p>\n

Since 2008, New Humanity has been an official partner of UNESCO<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For over thirty years, New Humanity has been committed to spreading the idea of a united world in every field of society, by promoting amongst its members and all those sharing in its action the spirit of universal brotherhood, as it is proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: \u201cAll human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Since its beginning, the mission of the NGO New Humanity has been to serve as the ambassador of the life, values, and good practices<\/strong> that are born from the Focolare Movement, an ecclesial and international movement that seeks to contribute to the unity of the human family, and to universal brotherhood.<\/strong><\/p>\n

New Humanity implements the ideal of Universal Brotherhood in trying to take up the challenges of today\u2019s world<\/strong>.  It works towards combating inequalities and the marginalization of peoples, ending each and every form of poverty, and forming global citizens. It is committed to peace, human rights, respect, solidarity amongst peoples, and safeguarding the planet from climate change.<\/p>\n
