Call for Projects: get up to €1500 for your ecological initiative
27.05.2025
The Seed Funding Program (SFP) has launched a new call for project proposals for its 2025–2026 edition. This micro-funding initiative supports youth-led and community-based efforts to develop ecological plans grounded in the principles of integral ecology. The current edition is being launched on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Laudato Si’, the encyclical in which Pope Francis calls for a renewed commitment to care for our common home through an integrated approach that connects ecology, social justice, and spirituality.
What is the Seed Funding Program?
The SFP was created to support and encourage meaningful and promising initiatives around the world within Focolare communities. The goal? To promote a transformation in personal and communal lifestyles, fostering sustainable relationships between people and the planet through local ecological plans. Launched in 2021, the program has already funded 15 projects across four continents.
Who can apply?
The call is open to youth-led or intergenerational initiatives, whether ongoing or in development, that work in local contexts and involve their surrounding communities — potentially even on a national scale.
Selection criteria:
A clear orientation toward integral ecology (for people and the planet);
Strong youth leadership and intergenerational collaboration;
Active involvement of the local community;
A motivation rooted in spiritual values, ideally with an ecumenical or interreligious approach.
3 to 5 selected projects will receive up to €1000 or €1500 in funding. An international, interdisciplinary jury will evaluate the proposals.
Timeline & how to apply
Deadline to apply: June 30, 2025 Results announced by: July 20, 2025 Project implementation starts: between July and September 2025 First report due: by the end of November 2025

The first round of the SFP (2021–2023) supported 15 unique projects implemented in countries such as the Philippines, Argentina, and several across Africa. Each one shows what’s possible when communities come together for people and planet.
This new edition is rooted in the spirit of Laudato Si’, which reminds us that “the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor” are deeply interconnected. It also echoes the words of Chiara Lubich, founder of the Focolare Movement, who believed that it is by addressing local challenges that we cultivate the moral responsibility to face global ones. She once said: “What is missing is not technical or economic resources, but an extra soul — a new love for humanity that makes us feel responsible for one another.”
The Seed Funding Program is promoted by New Humanity NGO, with the generous sponsorship of Mundell & Associates. The initiative is carried out in collaboration with United World Community and EcoOne, two partner networks committed to fostering environmental awareness and action through dialogue, education, and grassroots engagement.
