2025 FAO New Humanity Representation Activities
For FORUM ROMA—which serves as the representative body of New Humanity at the FAO and is active within the FAO—the year 2025 was primarily focused on organizing the Sixth Assembly of Catholic-Inspired Nonprofit Organizations, held in Rome from November 26 to 28, 2025, at Villa Aurelia. The assembly was part of the Jubilee Year celebrations, as evidenced by its title: “Pilgrims of Hope: for the Promotion of Human Dignity, the Common Good, and Peace.”
An entire year was dedicated to engaging directly with NGO representatives from various FORUMS in Brussels, Geneva, New York, Paris, and Strasbourg through a series of virtual meetings, in which Alessio Valente, delegate of New Humanity and coordinator of the Rome Forum, participated. The results were significant for the dialogue that developed among all parties, both in terms of drafting a shared document and in providing a platform for every geographic group, including those not yet institutionalized.
Meetings were held with representatives of the Vatican Secretariat of State, the Holy See’s permanent representatives to intergovernmental organizations, and staff from the Dicasteries, to celebrate together our shared hope for a world of peace and international justice.
Members of the New Humanity headquarters provided a much-appreciated contribution to the event’s organizational secretariat. This event provided an opportunity to strengthen ties with the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the FAO, Monsignor Fernando Chica Arellano, and with representatives of Catholic-inspired NGOs that make up the Rome Forum. We are still awaiting the reform of the accreditation process at the FAO, which will allow us to actively participate in sessions and thematic meetings at the Rome headquarters. Meanwhile, the FAO’s invitation to representatives of religious organizations to participate in the roundtable discussion “The Role of Religious Organizations in Realizing the Right to Food for All,” held on October 28 at the headquarters in Rome, was viewed positively. The event, attended by Alessio Valente, provided an opportunity to share best practices in promoting inclusive food systems and their role in providing safety nets for vulnerable populations. A significant aspect was the development of interreligious dialogue on the right to food, bringing together diverse perspectives and experiences.
