The second edition of the Seed Funding Program supports inspiring youth-led and intergenerational initiatives across the world to promote local ecological action within Focolare communities. In 2025–2026, the program accompanies 10 diverse projects across several continents — each rooted in its local reality yet united by the shared commitment to care for people and the planet through concrete expressions of integral ecology.

Bin to Bite Initiative (B2Bi)
Zgharta District, Lebanon
Lebanon faces a deep economic crisis together with serious waste mismanagement. Bin to Bite promotes recycling and transforms sorted waste into food support for vulnerable families.
Mission
To combine environmental awareness and social solidarity by educating households on effective recycling and using the income from recyclables to provide nutritious meals.
Main goals
- Promote widespread recycling practices to reduce solid and organic waste.
- Collect, sort and sell recyclables to fund food assistance.
- Prepare and distribute meals through a community kitchen sustained by the initiative.

ECO-CITOYENNETE ET PAIX VERTE
Burkina Faso
The project strengthens ecological and civic awareness among young people in Burkina Faso through education, community action and responsible leadership.
Mission
To act as a citizenship-building workshop where young people are equipped to carry out concrete actions such as tree planting and waste sorting.
Main goals
- Train T4NA youth leaders in environmental activism.
- Carry out awareness activities on integral ecology in schools.
- Promote waste management and tree planting initiatives.

EcoJeunes pour la Planète : Fraternité active pour une gestion durable des déchets plastiques
Benin
Mobilizes young people in five municipalities in southeastern Benin to reduce plastic pollution through digital tools, field actions and dynamics of fraternity.
Mission
To empower youth as eco-ambassadors who promote responsible environmental citizenship and lead awareness campaigns and community-based actions.
Main goals
- Train 100 young people in civic engagement and ecological spirituality.
- Organize three awareness campaigns collecting at least 1,000 kg of plastic waste.
- Create a community nursery and replant at least 3,000 mangrove seedlings.

Establishment of 25 Households Organic Vegetables and Fruit Gardens
Khushpur, Pakistan
Khushpur village faces food insecurity and malnutrition despite having available land. The project supports poor families in creating organic home gardens.
Mission
To empower small farmers and landless families to grow their own healthy vegetables and fruits using sustainable practices, improving nutrition and reducing expenses.
Main goals
- Train 25 poor farmers and landless villagers in organic food production.
- Increase home gardening and consumption of self-grown produce.
- Achieve a 30% increase in organically grown fruits and vegetables sold locally.

Green Graduates Uganda
Lwengo District, Uganda
The project promotes integral ecology by empowering youth and local communities to restore degraded land and develop sustainable livelihoods through a youth-run nursery.
Mission
To establish a youth-managed tree nursery and train young people and farmers in agroforestry and creation-care values.
Main goals
- Set up a functional nursery producing 10,000 young tree seedlings annually.
- Train 100 young people and farmers with practical skills in integral ecology and agroforestry.
- Engage local faith communities in conservation and environmental education.

Harmony with Nature (HawNA)
Northern Uganda
Inspired by Laudato Si’, the project promotes lifestyle transformation and sustainable relationships between people and the planet in northern Uganda.
Mission
To restore ecological balance by promoting reforestation, environmental education and sustainable agriculture in communities affected by deforestation and poor land management.
Main goals
- Increase forest cover, improve soil fertility and restore degraded land.
- Foster environmental awareness and eco-spiritual values leading to behavioural change.
- Promote a cleaner environment and active youth participation in climate action.

Mariápolis Ginetta: Educação e Inovação – Transformando Resíduos em Caminhos para a Sustentabilidade
Vargem Grande Paulista, Brazil
The project educates the Mariápolis Ginetta community about the environmental impacts of incorrect waste disposal and implements selective collection and recycling.
Mission
To inspire a cultural transformation towards responsible waste management while creating dignified opportunities for local waste collectors.
Main goals
- Raise ecological awareness and individual responsibility in environmental preservation.
- Establish effective selective collection and recycling systems.
- Promote partnerships with waste pickers and recycling companies, benefiting vulnerable groups.

SISTEMA DE CAPTACIÓN DE AGUA DE LLUVIA Y RIEGO PARA ÁREA DE LOMBRICULTURA
Mariápolis El Diamante, Mexico
The project installs a sustainable rainwater collection and drip irrigation system for the vermiculture area, ensuring a reliable water supply for vermicompost production.
Mission
To guarantee a constant water supply without relying on the purified water well, while engaging young people in environmental education and responsible water management.
Main goals
- Install a properly functioning rainwater harvesting and storage system.
- Train young people in water collection, irrigation and vermiculture.
- Organize workshops and activities so the system can be replicated in other communities.

Restoring Life, Restoring Hope: Kidongo Community Mangrove Restoration Initiative
Mtwapa Creek, Kenya
This youth-led initiative focuses on restoring degraded mangrove ecosystems while supporting the Kidongo fishing community, which faces both environmental degradation and poverty.
Mission
To restore mangrove habitats through holistic, community-driven conservation and to create sustainable, community-owned livelihoods such as nurseries and beekeeping.
Main goals
- Restore 5 hectares of degraded mangrove habitat.
- Establish community-owned enterprises including nurseries and beekeeping.
- Empower 20 youth environmental stewards for long-term ecosystem care.

TEJIENDO REDES: Educación Ambiental para el cuidado de la Casa Común
Mariápolis Lía, Argentina
The project promotes active environmental citizenship through educational resources, digital content and training for teachers and students in collaboration with multiple organizations.
Mission
To contribute to a cultural transformation that fosters ecological and solidarity-based sensitivity and builds a regional educational community focused on environmental care.
Main goals
- Survey and systematize educational experiences in integral ecology.
- Design and produce educational resources for children and adolescents.
- Support and train teachers and students, and disseminate the resources across the Southern Cone.
